Tips for Selling a House with Feng Shui

Buying and selling homes can sometimes become very stressful. To ease this process Feng Shui offers many ideas on how to make a quick sale, without losing money and, better yet, making a nice profit. My services include giving the client suggestions on how to make this happen. Some ideas seem a bit strange, but they all have a deeper meaning and purpose. They include how the Elements of Water, Wood, Fire, Metal and Earth are used in a balanced way, allowing the Chi to flow on the land or property, the shape of the house, as each Element has a shape and purpose. Terrain has shapes, plots of land have shape, houses have shapes, rooms have shapes, and our bodies have shapes. So, each home is usually different from the house next door, but each person brings a different energy to their home, which could be quiet or yelling children, dogs, cats, a banker, a builder, a happy couple, a criminal, a teacher, a city mayor or a retirement community.

I must consider each individual, their temperament, the house’s Chi, etc. Houses take on their owners’ Chi. The secret to selling a home is to clear and balance the house so more people feel “at home” when house shopping. I could fill a book with many stories relating to this subject, and the process becomes very intriguing, as sometimes the investigation to why a house won’t sell becomes a mystery which needs solving. The clues can be underfoot or far away.

This email contains some tips for a current client, which you might find helpful on your next house sale. She and her husband are trying to sell their home of many years and are having some problems.

Caroline,

Thank you again for your kindness and great wisdom.

I am slowly, but consciously making changes in our beach house which we are selling.

I am especially excited about the violet-purple sheets that we purchased this weekend to place on our well-positioned bed in the Wealth sector of our home. In addition, I have also added a purple African Violet plant and two purple glass vases and three paintings that have violets and purples tones. Wow!

In my studio, the Knowledge sector, I have placed some blue towels on top of file cabinets. I have a very large green plant on one side of our fireplace in the Children’s sector, and am still working on that area, although I found a large bag of coins which I have placed on the hearth in a black bowl. I have not been able to afford six red potted plants but have three in white pots with bright red begonias marching up the front steps. We also bought an inexpensive but quite lovely hanging light to go over the spiral staircase which gives the illusion of crystal as it has panels of shining glass.

The plant at the bottom of the stairs looks very nice as well. Oh, I also have two candles on the dining room table in the Marriage/Relationship sector.

You have mentioned that you have emailed me, but to date I have not had the joy of receiving messages from you. Perhaps this email will put me in your address book. Thanks so much, and looking forward to hearing from you.

A Reader

Hi to you,

It sounds like you are having fun while learning all these Feng Shui “things.” The reason for the nine potted plants is the number 9 is the number of abundance and prosperity. Three is pretty but not a cure, which is okay. I just wanted to explain the difference between an enhancement and a cure. A white pot is considered a Metal Element, but “Metal” makes money, as when metal get cold condensation forms, and begins dripping Water, which brings money on the “wave.” Black pots are considered a Water Element color, which represents money pouring in on the water.

Candles for the Marriage sector are good, but you may want to add two cranes or two mandarin ducks, both which mate for life, in the center of the table along with the candles. Candles are the Fire Element, which would keep a marriage warm; but too much fire could cause arguing. (I’m explaining this to the extreme just so you can see how the Elements compliment or balance each other.) I have two ceramic pheasants in my marriage corner

I think I was going to send you the selling cure. It seems quite silly, but works, because it helps you visualize giving your home to a new caretaker. It has worked for me and many others. Sometimes it is hard to let go of a happy house and let go of familiar things like houses, people, things, places and old habits.

Take a Metal object such as a screw which won’t be missed out of a kitchen drawer or cabinet. Place it in a red envelope. Take it to a fast-moving body of water and throw the envelope in the water between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., which is when Yin and Yang energy is at its peak. See the envelope being “caught” by a prospective owner. Visualize that everything goes easily and perfectly and that you are delighted to hand over your home to this person. After the house goes into escrow, replace the screw.

I will give you auspicious dates tomorrow, or the best days to perform this cure for this month, as I must get my column out before 4 p.m. today.

Did you write out your note for the wish bucket or metal silver or silver type bucket, bowl or container and place in the Helpful People corner of the house you are selling? This is very important. Or you can place a sale flyer of the house with an auspicious price, which we discussed earlier.

Blessings,

Caroline
