West Meets East© By Caroline Patrick Feng Shui for All Generations
The following questionnaire was recently sent to me by an Arizona college student. Her questions reflect a genuine interest on the ancient Chinese method of placement for homes, churches, temples, businesses, gardens and landscaping by young adults. She finds the concept of harmony and balance for the environment not only a necessary world project, but also an enjoyable hobby that brings a peaceful feeling to her home when applied. No matter what school of thought she chooses, Form school, Pyramid school, Gemonancy, Compass or Black Hat Sect or others, she is heading in the right direction toward balance. Here is her questionnaire: Feng Shui Questionnaire Q: How popular would you say feng shui is in your area? What is the market like? A: Feng shui has become very popular, because everyone feels the need to realign their lives and go forward to find a balance between home, work and spiritually. I have the opportunity to work 20 hours a day with my business, but I schedule time off too for yin, which is my writing, painting and making herbal preparations. Q: How many calls to you get per week/month for consultations? From what general area? A: I have a gallery and feng shui shoppe called Carolines Arts. I teach feng shui classes, art classes and herbal workshops. We have other teachers come into the studio teaching Chinese medicine, flower essences, handwriting analysis, essential oil demonstrations and other related subjects, so we have many calls. Feng shui inquiries come too from my websites and also by phone. I book 1 3 per day. I also do speaking engagements. The shoppe is very busy with the retail aspect also. The area ranges 200 miles plus I also feng shui all over the world by phone and fax. Q: What are the demographics of your typical customer age, income, etc.? A: The clients demographics range from 10 to 95 in ages, incomes from low income to wealthy. Businessmen and women, homemakers, schools, hospital management, all businesses, food companies to realtors, healers, tugboat companies, doctors, lawyers and newspaper corporations. Q: What are the market trends regarding feng shui? A: Supplying cures and corrections in the form of crystals, mirrors, rugs, pottery, plants, food, candles, water structures, statuary, etc. in all nine colors of the bagua and five element system: water, wood, fire, metal and earth used in coordinating shapes. Q: What is involved in a consultation? Methods and tools used, time etc. A: Consultations vary from a teaching format for 500 to a one-on-one home consultation. I have the client provide the floor plan and then I map the home or business in question. A template or bagua, an eight-sided octagonal grid, is placed over the floor plan and provides an overlay of your lifes nine aspects. There are many schools of thought on this 5000-year-old system. I use the Black Hat Method, made popular by HH Professor Lin Yun, world Master on the use of Black Hat Tantric Buddhism School. Q: How much do you charge for a consultation for home/business? A: My fees vary according to time and location. $350 for 2 hours and $179 every additional hour. Q: What type of technology do you use? A: The universal law of yin and yang. The complete balance of environmental, physical and mental or spiritual. Q: Who would you say your main competitors are? What are your strengths and weaknesses in comparison? A: All teachers and messengers have their unique format and way of relating. Everyone is drawn to like energy or chi, so there is no comparison. All humans should work in unison to bring peace. I believe my strength lies in mistakes. To see the fault and let go of any anger and blame has given me the ability to clear the fog and see the future. Another asset is my humor, to laugh at myself, see the mistakes and ALWAYS move forward as soon as possible. Q: Do you work in conjunction with any interior designers or realtors? A: Yes, many. Q: What are your keys to success? A: Praying each day and then take time to listen for the answers is the most important step. Let go of petty issues. Q: What are ways in which you advertise? A: Phone book, (14) newspapers, magazines, radio, websites with information and Questions and Answers. I also write a weekly newspaper column called West Meets East which is on my website also at www.moongateschool.com and www.fengshuiartistry.com. Q: Do you consult on a full or part time basis? A: Yes. Over 2500 consultations to date. Here is her reply after receiving my answers. Dear Ms. Patrick, Thank you so much for your thorough response to my questionnaire. I decided to do this project on something I have a great interest in. I figured by doing this assignment on feng shui it could double as research for me to decide if I want to pursue training in feng shui (Ive only read a few books, and yes, it does get very confusing with the different schools of thought) and where I might find a good training program. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. My grandmother and I have been feng shui-ing our house (probably doing it all wrong) and it does "feel" better. Feng shui just seems like a very fun and rewarding way to make a living or just enjoy as a hobby. Thank you again for taking time for me, and best of luck to you. College Student With over 250 feng shui related books on the market, people are still requesting more information. Here are nine workshop schedules related to the subject of feng shui.
