Different Schools of Feng Shui and Their Thoughts

Recently I got an email with questions about a consultation I had done for a company. Here is the question and my answer. I hope this helps many of you to understand the reason for my decision on this large business operation with over 25 employees.

Caroline,

I put a mirror on the outside of the bathroom door outside of my office, but someone (a Chinese person) told me that it was reflecting bad towards my office…thoughts?

ANSWER:

There are many schools of thought about Feng Shui. Each has some very distinct “cures.” Six or seven years ago there were 264 books out on the subject in the U.S. Thirty years ago there were only about one or two English versions. Many people jumped on the Feng Shui “bandwagon” and created schools such as Intuitive and Pyramid, etc. There is also a Feng Shui book for cats; if you feel the need to buy this book, it is available.

Over the years many ideas and versions of Feng Shui applications have come into conflict. There are books which say don’t hang any mirrors in the house, for various reasons, and don’t place a mirror at the entry to a home, as it will send the energy back out the door. So you will get a lot of advice passed down through generations and general conflicting information. Scary, huh?

I studied many of these theories during my investigational phase of Feng Shui schools twenty years ago and found a lot of truth to many of them, but also a lot of wrong advice. I try to walk between the two worlds of communication, blending modern technology with the ancient truth of how the conditions of weather, land and environment affect shelters and dwellings we build on the land. If the home site isn’t completely balanced with the terrain, a consultant will advise several ways to accomplish this.

One way to change a space is through reflective materials. Mirrors create different effects. They can enlarge, push back, pull in, and change a visual perception of energy. Using a full-length mirror on the outside of a bathroom door is a great tool for a room which action is a constant draining downward flow of Water, which relates how money flows into a business or home through the Element of Water. It helps reverse the situation.

Grandmaster Professor Lin Yin came to the U.S. in 1986 after being invited by some American Chinese in the Berkeley area to teach many subjects, including Feng Shui, to their culture, and found many Caucasians fascinated by the concept who wished to learn The Art of Placement also. His ideas include blending modern technology, such as telephones, satellite, solar lighting, and airports as the mouth of Chi to cities, freeways and T-zones while combining ancient techniques in old and new ways in our new age.

Bathrooms were not included in the floor plans of ancient dwellings. Now some have become beautiful works of art with in the design, but builders who do not understand the five-element balance place bathrooms in Career, Health, Wealth and Partnership Guas or zones of a floor plan. So how do we deal with this situation with the plumbing of tubs, sinks, washers and septic tanks and toilets backing up to stoves for cooking healthy food or a bed headboard with pipes in the walls, pulling Chi downward every night as you sleep? Each of these draining objects have “cures” which we, as Black Sect Feng Shui Consultants, have learned from our teacher Professor Lin Yun over many years of study. We find these “cures” provide relief from bad design and provide much success when used properly.

Here are some quotes from past classes on cures for bathrooms in different locations, their Diagnosis and their Cure.

Facing a kitchen: Money and health are flushed away. Install a full-length mirror on the outside of the door.

Facing the bedroom: Digestive problems. . Install a full-length mirror on the outside of the door. 2. Hang a crystal ball between the bed and the bathroom.

At the end of a long hall: Chi is funneled too quickly; intestinal and fertility problems. Hang a curtain, wind chime, mobile or crystal in the hall to disperse Chi.

Explanation: On the energy level, it reflects the Chi of the house or business away from the bathroom so it doesn’t get drained. Psychologically, the mirror makes the bathroom vanish from your attention, because the view in the mirror reflects another part of the house or building.

So this is why I suggested a full-length mirror on the bathroom door and across from the mirror place a picture of bamboo, which is up growing, and the Water from the bathroom will have “something” to nourish. (The bamboo plant brings good luck, flexibility in business, and support to yourself and your staff, as the Wood Element of the plant helps communication of the workers.)

On your floor plan of the company, it looks as if I have placed a 50mm round faceted crystal in the hallway also, between your office and the bathroom, for more protection from the downward Chi. This crystal is very important as are all of the crystals I have placed in the floor plan, as each has a reason and a purpose, correcting long halls, etc.

Have no doubt as you place these objects and give them each a prayer or blessings while visualizing their purpose. This will give them extra power.

After this is all said, I only pass along what I am taught from the leading authority on Black Sect Feng Shui in the world. There is room for all the Feng Shui schools to flourish, but I feel this one has worked best for my clients, and I continue to study with Master Lin because I know many of his friends and clients around the world who have been blessed by his teachings and counsel.

Thanks for your inquiry and I hope to answer your questions as you work on your offices.

Much luck.
