How Do I Become a Feng Shui Consultant?

Hi Caroline,

Your newsletter is wonderful, and I hope there will be many more.

When will you be coming to Arizona or having any activities in this area? I would love to be involved.

A Reader

Dear Reader,

Hello again, where do you live? I lived in Arizona 20 years: Benson, Willcox, Tucson and Prescott. I taught art for Cochise College for many years and drove many miles to teach in other remote areas of Arizona.

I would come to teach if you could get a group together. Also I do a great class called View a Home. Someone volunteers their home and I take students through the house and teach them Feng Shui.

I also do speaking engagements for companies and corporations or for realtor conferences. I work with school systems and businesses also.

I would need traveling expenses plus some consultations, which could be discussed.

My workshops are great fun, plus you learn how to bring about change in nine areas of your life. I've done over 3000 consultations and owned a Feng Shui shop and art gallery for eight years.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Caroline

Dear Caroline,

How great to hear from you, and so speedily, and not an automatic response message.

I live in Camp Verde, midway between Phoenix and Flag. I have the non-moving Verde River in my backyard about 100 yards away.

I am packing for Hawaii for a Gary Yound Essential Oils conference and will be back the 24th, so will contact you then. Thanks for the lovely response.

Dear Reader,

I have driven by your city many times and looked for land there. My husband and I lived in Makahau Valley on the leeward side of Oahu for a while.

Have a nice trip.

Caroline

Hi, Caroline,

I had some computer problems, or should I say server problems, so wonder if my yesterday's message went through to you.

Anyway, I asked how one "super studies" Feng Shui and gets certified. There is, so far in my research, one online school, and I'm curious. Considering finances and time, what theories do you have to offer?

Thanks, A Reader

Dear Reader,

Hello, no, I didn't receive any email questions about learning Feng Shui. First you should determine which "school of thought" you would like to study and stay with that for sometime until you understand the concepts of the Elements, colors, land and property shapes, and then the spiritual and intuition develops. I have been a Feng Shui student for over 15 years, as it is a continuing process. I have studied Form School, Compass School, and in the end chose to practice Black Sect Tibetan Tantric Buddhism form of harmony and balance as it works better for most people in the West, as it is easier for my clients to use, understand and it works fantastically well.

That said, the serious schools are expensive. I give completion certificates to my students for each class taken, which can add up over a semester or several workshops. Mapping the Home is the first course offered, next is Interior/Exterior, Room by Room, Feng Shui Gardening, Painting with Chi, View a Home, a very popular workshop where I take students through homes, and Feng Shui them while you learn and take notes. I have great volumes of material gathered over the years as a consultant/practitioner. I have helped over 3000 clients with their homes and business and taught hundreds of classes and workshops in Feng Shui, art and herbalist over a 35-year period. Actually all of these arts blend in the need for environmental harmony.

When I began learning and then teaching Feng Shui, there were no certifications, only completion certificates for so many classes given. Now there are some schools out there that certify. The first teacher I would recommend is Katherine Metz, longtime disciple of His Holiness Professor Lin Yun, my Master teacher. She has an online program that can be taken a year at a time, around $300 to $400 a month. She has been an avid note taker for 15 years and has an ability to accurately record every spoken word of Master Lin, who is the world's authority on Black Sect Tantric Buddhist Feng Shui. It is worth the investment as she invites you to become the best type of consultant, learning the nature of yourself and the environment. Environmental, physical and spiritual developmental is necessary for the pure form of Chi to manifest in your being, which is then shared with others. Katherine is in New York and other locations. You can email her at kametz@aol.com.

Steven Post's school, GEO, stevenpost@geofengshui.com, is another excellent source. He is a published author, Feng Shui Master and 30-year disciple of Professor Lin. His study and intellect are matchless as he possesses a true heart, knowledge, deep values and devotion necessary to be Master. He travels widely between his schools in San Francisco and New York. Steven is called upon to debate legislation for Feng Shui and has worked countless hours providing an easier and respectable pathway for other Feng Shui consultants to travel. (He is also a devoted friend and funny guy who has answered last-minute questions of the Art of Placement for me on a Sunday morning.)

David Kennedy is a great teacher who travels a great deal. It is a treat to hear him speak, as he is another devoted early student and disciple of Master Lin Yun. David's book is also a great reference for the everyday Feng Shui textbook, Feng Shui for Dummies, www.fengshuiweb.com, email dkennedy@earthlink.net

Shelly Sparks is a new friend, fantastic teacher, and landscape designer. She is based in Los Angeles. Harmonygardens.net will get you in touch with her. Shelly is extremely talented in note taking, which is a necessity when learning from Master Lin Yun. On our recent 3-week China trip, she was up front getting those secret cures and corrections written down, as Professor speaks in a humble normal tone of voice which is hard to hear when a crowd of 70 or more eager students are huddling into the tight circle of human minds, listening to every detail of wisdom being given while Professor Lin points to land masses, rivers and temples where Feng Shui began. Shelly also carries a professional camera to capture the future in action.

Well, you certainly got me stirred up on the subject of how to learn Feng Shui the GOOD WAY! My point is, it isn't a weekend seminar that gets you proper qualifications and experience. It is hard work, dedication and a way of life. Now, if you want to know how to use Feng Shui for every day topical cures, I would highly recommend Terah Collin's books and San Diego school. I believe it is called Western School of Feng Shui. It is around $3500 for two or three rounds of schooling and homework. She will certify and get you going on basic decor and balance suggestions that can be applied quickly. This is a great addition to your other schools.

Other Feng Shui practitioners that I respect are Marina Lighthouse (she is a resource for products, www.fengshui.nu), Catherine Dawson in Colorado (www.radiantchi.com) , Janani Lucas, my friend in Seattle (look on her website for products (fengshuithespiritofplace.com).

There are other qualified teachers, but you asked me for my choices. I know these teachers personally and respect their dedication to the art of placement.

I would be happy to get you started if you would like to form a group in your Phoenix location, as I cover a great deal in my classes in a short time. My talent, I'm told, as a speaker and teacher, is to get the subject across quickly, in an easy-to-understand manner, which helps you decide which direction you want to continue your studies in Feng Shui. Please check my websites for further information on the Artist's Bagua and moongateschool.com for copies of my weekly newspaper column WEST MEETS EAST from the Benicia Herald, Bay Area publication.
